December 2003. John C. Berg has been named a fellow of AIChE. Dr. Berg is a Rehnberg Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Washington and received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of California Berkeley. He has received AIChE's Alpha Chi Sigma Award for Chemical Engineering Research, University of Washington's Outstanding Teacher Award, The J.S. Guggenheim Fellowship Award, the Invited Distinguished Professor from Ecole Polytechnique Federale Lausanne, Switzerland, and Visiting Eminant Scholar, from the University of Florida.

In August 2003, Matt Schultz joined MCS Environmental, Inc. in Mountlake Terrace, Washington. MCS Environmental specializes in design/build work in construction and remediation, natural resources/fisheries work, industrial hygiene services, and stream restoration. Long time Local Section member Jon Dalan announces his re-entry into private consulting practice, after a long exclusive stint with Ionicsrcc. Operating under the name Jon Dalan, Chemical Engineering. Jon consults in the area of industrial water treatment; demineralized water systems, industrial wastewater systems and zero liquid discharge systems. The services include design, implementation and operations support for filtration RO, IX, evaporators, crystallizers, and water chemistry. He can be reached at [email protected] or (206)-794-0503.

Albert Babb, Emeritus Professor, University of Washington celebrated 50-years of AIChE membership (1952-2002). In September 2002 Professor Babb received a plaque in honor of his membership in AIChE. Sid Sapakie, AIChE National President, presented the award to Professor Babb (pictures below). See the list of other recent 50 Year Members .

Engineered Products & Services (EPS), Sammamish WA, wishes to announce the addition of our newest associate, Ms. Zoe Beck, who will be joining our firm as Applications Engineer/Sales Manager. Zoe will manage new business development, perform engineering consulting services, and project management for applications involving industrial water & wastewater treatment, filtration, metals precipitation/recovery, evaporation, crystallization, drying, heat recovery, and other related areas for EPS.

Zoe graduated from Colorado School of Mines (Golden Colorado) in Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Refining along with receiving a minor in Environmental Engineering. With nearly 20 years experience in a wide range of areas, her strong background in zero liquid discharge waterwater systems, and previous employment with Coastal Chem and Ionics/Resources Conservation Company - she makes available both technical strength and substantial project experience.

We are very excited to have Zoe on-board. Her efforts will allow EPS to provide a greater depth of applications assistance and engineering consulting services for our Clients.

Charlie Brown is pleased to announce his new position as a Process Engineer for the Calciner Unit at BP Cherry Point Refinery.  Charlie's new role with BP began on March 1, 2002.
