Position Available : Lighting Efficiency Auditor

Ecology Action of Santa Cruz is seeking four Lighting Efficiency Auditors to join our Energy Team, working on the RightLights Program. The $5 million 2-year program provides turn-key lighting efficiency improvements to small businesses in Santa Clara, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito counties, with publicly-funded rebates covering much of the cost. RightLights is slated to “sell” and install 2500 lighting retrofits by the end of 2005. In the 2002-2003 version of the program, rebates covered an average of 75% of retrofit costs, with about 2 out of 3 covered 100%. To minimize travel time, we seek to hire auditors who reside in the counties they will serve.

The Auditor will work primarily in the field, visiting small and medium businesses to evaluate their lighting, decide on appropriate upgrades, and subsequently sell the owners or managers on the lighting retrofits. In their home office, the Auditor will enter the information gathered on-site into a laptop computer (provided), which generates a report detailing the job bid, rebate, and energy savings. The Auditor will also install a free package of screw-in compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) in qualified businesses. Lighting retrofits are subsequently installed by a pool of approved contractors, with most installations completed within 3 weeks.

Compensation ranges from $15 to $20 per hour DOE plus performance bonus of up to 33% as well as a generous benefit package. A personal vehicle is required ($.31/mile reimbursement). Ability to accommodate a home office is desirable. This is a full-time position through December 2005. If our contract is renewed for 2006 (as it was in 2003), the position may be extended.

To apply, email cover letter and resume to Gene Thomas at [email protected]
